At Robataya Izakaya, an authentic “Robataya” experience in a fun and relaxing “Izakaya”– Style setting awaits those eager to try a lesser-known facet of Japanese cuisine.

Japanese cuisine has continued to steal the spotlight in Malaysia since it first hit the local gastronomy scene. People have clamored for some new side of Japanese cooking introduced to their eager taste buds!

The latest answers to this call for a widening of the range of Japanese cookery that places just as much emphasis on the experience as it does the food. One of them is ‘izakaya’ which is a type of informal Japanese pub. In addition to the craze, these gastropubs tend to feature “Robatayaki” or “Robata” where it literally translates as “fireside cooking”, it refers to a centuries-old method of cooking that has been originated in Edo by the fisherman of Japan’s northernmost island, Hokkaido.

Head chef Raymond Chung mastered the cooking style in Tokyo years ago.

Robataya Izakaya is one local establishment that has taken it upon itself to cultivate Malaysian’s love for “Robata”.To enjoy Robata is to watch the head chef work his magic, as one’s food is cooked to perfection.

Meanwhile, architecture and interior design practice JA Design Studio Sdn Bhd has created this iconic look. Their key focus is for the customer to sit at the bar counter in front of the grill, have a nice drink and get promised “izakaya” experience at the same time!

The overwhelming success of the first restaurant in Publika Shopping Gallery in Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur led to more outlets being established. The second one opened in 1 Utama Shopping Centre in PJ and the latest one at Empire Shopping Gallery in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
