Fusion Of Function And Form

Designed by Kort Studio, this home takes inspiration from the timeless Scandinavian concept whereby practicality is made beautiful, and vice versa.

Subang Jaya is a robust area where suburban life meets cityscape, and neighbourhood peacefulness meets modern sensibilities. This amalgamation allows for a mixture of contemporary themes and cosy concepts to come through aesthetically, and Kort Studio definitely took that into consideration with this one and a half storey terrace home.

Just like how Subang Jaya is a mix of the urbanite and the homey, Scandinavian design is characterised by a mix of simplicity and functionality, with just the right touch of elegance. From the outside of the home, we are introduced to themes of a monochromatic palette and minimalistic style, but it is within the home that the modern Scandinavian aesthetic comes into full vision.

Entering the foyer, a monochromatic palette continues with the black chair and grey couch, but a refreshing Aegean blue colour breaks apart the monotony that can come with minimalism. Potted plants are also featured to bring freshness to the space.

Over in the dining area, hints of browns are also added, which is part of the Scandinavian concept. The legs of the dining table match those of the chairs, creating a unique motif. Speaking of unique motifs, the curve peak-through from the dining area that overlooks the kitchen is certainly an intriguing element. It serves a beautiful function, but can also allow for convenience for the residents.

The kitchen itself is minimalistic, with white cabinetry, which not only makes the area feel more spacious but also provides ample storage space. The use of white is a smart choice, as it becomes extra important to keep the aesthetic pure and peaceful since it can be seen from the dining room.

In the bedroom, the light brown wooden hues grow, alluding to a sense of intimacy and warmth. Other than the flooring, the master bedroom also has a cosy wooden nook that allows views of the verdant lawn outside.

As expected, the bathroom radiates modern simplicity with its cool grey tiles and black fixtures. Although simple, there is a sense of care and attention there, speaking volumes of Kort Studio’s dedication and vision.

The children’s bedroom is nothing short of adorable with the grey mountains painted onto the back wall. While ageappropriate, this design is nothing too kiddish or jarring, fitting perfectly with the rest of the home’s aesthetic while keeping it personalised.

While the child hangs out in the bedroom, the adults can get to work upstairs in the attic, which has been transformed into a modern and chic office space. A gorgeous partition has been added here to provide a barrier for the office space. A wooden table awaits here, beckoning for the residents to come forth and get some work done in this peaceful enclave.
