It’s common practice for A-listers to have trailers on set. A cozy mobile home-away-from-home outfitted with all the amenities they could need—packed into a sensible 600 or so square feet—is an oasis-like respite on long shoot days. Mobile homes also serve as secondary off-the-job home bases for some celebrities who’ve found themselves drawn in by the allure of an Airstream, the practicality of a downsized existence, or simply the freedom of an untethered dwelling that allows one to make themselves at home anywhere on and along the open road. Though they’re more strongly associated with a working-class lifestyle, there are mobile home lovers from all backgrounds. Spots in America’s most luxe trailer park, Malibu’s Paradise Cove, sell for millions of dollars; on the east coast, Montauk Shores in the Hamptons has drawn NYC elites out to the waterfront for trailers that regularly list in the ballpark of seven figures. Barbara Corcoran

Real estate legend Barbara Corcoran opened up the doors of her luxe double-wide trailer to give TikTok a look at its refined interiors. Where some celebs lean into the pared-back ethos of mobile home life, the Shark Tank star’s trailer sacrifices nothing: The abode boasts two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an airy open floor plan. Corcoran shared that the trailer cost $800,000 at purchase plus $150,000 in renovations.

Milo Ventimiglia

The COVID-19 pandemic moved This Is Us actor Milo Ventimiglia to explore some new hobbies and interests, one of which led him to exploring the country. After a trip across the US in a 22-foot-long Airstream, Bambi, the star upgraded to a slightly roomier 27-foot Flying Cloud model. He spoke with AD about the Airstream life in a 2021 interview: “I’ve got a bunch of bins and whatnot under the bed,” Ventimiglia said of the storage situation on board. “It’s absolutely Tetris.”

Matthew McConaughey

The Oscar winner expressed a genuine love of the nomadic lifestyle, small-space dwellings, and customizing Airstreams in a 2008 chat with AD. “Drivin’ is, number one, where I get some time with myself. Number two, it’s the main place I catch up on music. And number three, it’s the best way to see the country,” McConaughey explained. He personalized the space with a satellite dish, a barbecue out back, and a banquette. A visit to the Squamish Nation reservation in Vancouver provided the inspiration for the mobile home’s name: “When I left, they brought me a handcrafted oar that’s one of the symbols of the tribe. The oar guides the canoe, guides you through life—so I named the Airstream the Canoe. I mean, the highways are like riverways, they’re just concrete.”

Betsey Johnson

Designer Betsey Johnson’s taste in interiors is exactly what one might expect: It’s as kitschy and whimsical as her eponymous fashion label. In 2016, she swapped her Upper East Side townhouse out for a mobile home measuring in at 1,400 square feet. Johnson’s trailer, a two-bedroom, skylight-lined hot pink dwelling, was stationed in Malibu’s plush Paradise Cove trailer park. “I have changed my life completely. I’m tired of taking care of homes. I’m really happy to have one little dollhouse, and that’s it,” she told The Wall Street Journal in 2016. She listed the mobile home in 2019 for just under $2 million.

Stevie Nicks

The Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter also owned property in the famed Paradise Cove trailer park. According to the Real Deal, coveted spots in the tony mobile home enclave come with monthly rates ranging from $1,500 to more than $4,000—in addition to the actual price of the trailer. Nicks was said to have sold her piece of Paradise Cove for $5.3 million, per Mansion Global. Though the Real Deal doesn’t cite the star outright, the publication reports Paradise Cove’s sale record at $5.3 million in an April 2023 piece.

J.B. Smoove

Curb Your Enthusiasm star J.B. Smoove took AD inside his Damon Outlaw Toy Hauler—complete with solar panels, a lofted bedroom, and five televisions—in 2020. “The RV life is an awesome life!” he proclaimed. “I think what is happening now is there is a big swing towards living minimal. Minimization. People are getting rid of the clutter.”

Tom Hanks

The Asteroid City actor’s 1992 Airstream travel trailer was in his life throughout the filming of 18 movies from the 1990s through the 2010s. In 2021, he decided to let it go after decades of on-set use and released it to bidders at Bonhams auction house, where it sold for $235,200. “You haven’t lived well until you survive a movie-stopping thunderstorm in an Airstream while on location in Carolina,” he told Bonhams. “But, more than anything, an Airstream is gorgeous and cozy, which is why everyone who visited mine went away wanting one.”
