With gorgeous design and impeccable focus on the details, The Saigon Penthouse designed by Quách TháI Công is a luxe living space that is a testament of its interior elegance, steeped in the beauty of its details.

Located at the center of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and overlooking the picturesque Saigon River, the Saigon Penthouse, designed by German-Vietnamese interior designer Quách Thái Công is a reflection of his East-meets-West design philosophy.

The 3,659 sq.ft. apartment is owned by a US software specialist who lives in Ho Chi Minh City for several months of the year with his wife, and spends most of his time working from home. The design brief given to Thái Công was to have a dedicated work-from-home space, with an additional requirement to make the home as warm and welcoming for guests who were staying over as well.

To address the design brief given, Thái Công reconfigured the penthouse apartment from its original three-bedroom layout to a two-bedroom home, including large office space. The rest of the home is designed to be bright and undeniably luxurious; a true haven from the hustle and bustle of the city below.

The office space, which was christened the Office Salon by Thái Công, is the largest and brightest room in the home. As the apartment’s main feature space, Thái Công incorporated a fascinating two-in-one concept, integrating the living room with the working space. Furnished with velvet and touches of gold, the space is completed with a beautiful piece of artwork in the middle, along with strategically placed lighting that exudes an unmistakably luxurious feel.

Just outside the office is the terrace, which offers panoramic views of the Saigon River and Botanic Garden in the centre of the city and gives the owners a respite from work.

The penthouse receives plenty of bright sunlight, and in the hot Ho Chi Minh weather, can get very warm. To address this issue, Thái Công needed to ensure that a suitable window treatment was used. Using a fine copper textile sourced from Italy for the curtain, the sunshine in the daytime can be shaded, while providing a little sparkle in the evening.

Decorative lighting plays a vital role in the design of the apartment, with a total of 17 lamps that Thái Công carefully selected. The most striking of all is the Baccarat black crystal chandelier by Philippe Starck, which lends an air of decadence to the space, especially when paired with the classical style of the furnishings.

The lounge area next to the dining space was created for entertaining guests. Replacing the white marble wall that was dominating the space before, Thái Công replaced it with a bronze-tinted mirror and dark bronze wallpaper that gave a sense of warmth to the space. that lend warmth to the space. The space is furnished with a sculpture by Chrystiane Charles, and accented with a bronze-and-gold-finish Charles Paris wall lamp.
As an extension of entertainment for the guests and the owners, Thái Công created a space as a media room, with the purpose of karaoke and games, as well as hosting movie nights. For the homeowners’ frequent guests, a bright and airy guest bedroom which features twin beds is readily available. The space boasts of crystalline details, neutral hues and subtle quilted patterns that create a luxe atmosphere not unlike that of an upscale hotel accommodation.

The master bedroom is no less decadent. The en-suite deluxe sleeping room is bathed in a delicate palette of white, beige and brown. The bamboo-patterned wallpaper is simultaneously whimsical and discreet, and beautifully complements the dark tones of the curtain to create a stylish, exquisite and cosy living space. The room also features the same neutral hues and details such as the Technolumen Wall Lamp which was designed by Wilfred Buquet in 1927.
