NS BlueScope Malaysia spearheads a dynamic discourse on sustainable sourcing, showcasing insights, innovations, and commitments for a greener tomorrow.

The event, under a participatory framework thought-leaders and stakeholders seated huddled within a convergent roof, dwelt on some key subjects regarding responsible sourcing, fair labor practices, and hence, sustainability of the supply chain. Her Excellency Danielle Heinecke, Australia’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, graced the occasion as the distinguished Guest of Honor, accentuating the conference’s importance on both national and international scales.

The conference boasted an impressive lineup of internal and external experts who shared their insights and experiences.

1. Mr. Andrew Watson, Head of Group Procurement at BlueScope, shed light on the company’s comprehensive sustainability approach and its dedicated efforts to foster a responsible supply chain.

2. Mr. Henry Yeo, VP of Health, Safety & Environment at NS BlueScope Limited, highlighted the organization’s ambitious net-zero climate strategy, underlining its commitment to environmental preservation and employee well-being.

3. Ms. Rayvathi Rajendra, Vice President of Legal & External Affairs at NS BlueScope Malaysia, discussed BlueScope’s Purpose, Bond, and the Code of Conduct – outlining the company’s ethos and principles governing its operations.

4. Ms. Gillian Lee, Vice President of Supply Chain at NS BlueScope Malaysia, emphasized ethical business practices and human rights protection in BlueScope’s sourcing approach through engagement, risk assessment, and improvement initiatives.

External experts also brought valuable perspectives from their respective domains.

2. Mr. Kamarul Dato’ Marzuki, representing PERSOLKELLY Workforce Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd, discussed ethical recruiting, emphasizing the need for fair labor practices throughout the supply chain. Mr. Michael Angseesing, from Quaker Houghton (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, provided insights into his company’s sustainability strategy, enriching the discourse with diverse viewpoints.

Post-conference, attendees were treated to an exclusive “Sustainability Journey” plant tour, showcasing NS BlueScope Malaysia’s environmental stewardship efforts. From SunField solar farm, Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO), Solar Powered Street Lights, and Rainwater Harvesting for wastewater treatment, the tour highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

In her closing remarks, Wong Sen Meng, Country President of NS BlueScope Malaysia, underscored the pivotal role of responsible sourcing in meeting consumer expectations while mitigating adverse environmental and social impacts.
