The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) is the global voice and authority for professional Interior Architects/Designers. As the sole international federating body for Interior Architecture/Design Organizations, IFI acts as a global forum for the exchange and development of knowledge and experience in worldwide education, research and practice, and is the singular global authority for professional Interior Architects/Designers. Often considered as the “United Nations” of the Interior Architecture/Design field, IFI represents over 270,000 designers, educators and industry stakeholders in around 110 countries.
Mr. Steve Leung, Founder of the internationally-renowned and award-winning interior design company Steve Leung Designers Ltd. (SLD), was inaugurated as the President 2017-2019 of International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) at the 28th IFI General Assembly held in Nigeria, Africa on November 12. Steve is the first Chinese to be elected to this position, turning a new page for the world’s interior design industry.
Industry association representatives from around 20 different cities and countries attended the IFI General Assembly. The meeting discussed the projects and budget of IFI over the past board term, planned upcoming programs and developments, and concluded on the theme for IFI World Interior Days. IFI committee elections was completed while the new Executive Board was announced. Mr. Steve Leung the globally acclaimed interior designer was elected as the President, the first Chinese entrusted with this position. At his inauguration speech, Steve said: “As IFI belongs to no single person, no single country and no single region, I can promise you, as the new President of IFI, that I will do my very best with my fellow board members, to make IFI a truly global representation for all of us.”
Steve has devoted himself to developing a more united, more transparent and more sustainable IFI since he became the President-elect 2015-2017. Upon the commencement as the President, Steve will exercise his 30 years of practice experience to gather associations and charitable organizations of the design industry, and to connect global professional representatives to explore the development and opportunities of the international design industry. Steve believes design has the power to improve lives and drive social development. Steve and the new Board will strive to enhance the engagement of the design industry globally, while encouraging the participation of government institutions, educational organisations, related enterprises and more interior design associations. In doing so IFI can expand and diversify its membership base, therefore fostering a more comprehensive and representative international platform for exchange and enhancing the global status of the interior design industry.
