Creativity flows outside the confinement of four walls.
Happiness is when a street photographer is given the opportunity to try out a beautiful black and white camera, but this isn’t the case when the Covid-19 Epidemic Movement Control Order prevents them from doing it.
Lydia challenged herself to continue working on a series within the confines of her home, spending two weeks thinking in black and white, allowing her imagination run wild, and experimenting with the numerous ideas that came to her head, all while using the incredibly adaptable Leica Q2 Monochrom camera. Creating a series that is significantly different from what she used to photograph on the street is both enjoyable and hard.

Whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Keep climbing till you get there. Don’t give up.
I miss traveling so much that I had a strong urge to create some street photos at home. To replicate the feeling, I tried to shoot with the same perspective that I would at the street. The only difference is for this I couldn’t chance upon the scene. I had to create one before taking a picture.
“On the way to our destination for supper, I pointed my camera upwards and captured a beautiful building”.
Arhhhh…THAT’S MY IMAGINATION… the reality is I placed two pieces of cards on the dining table and created this image with the handy and highly capable camera I had with me.
I captured this in my kitchen when the evening sun casted a strong shadow on the wall. My street photography sense kicked in leading me to place the two brushes together and created a love story. This is the beginning of my street photography journey at home.

Lydia is a multi-award-winning photographer whose work has been acknowledged by organisations such as the Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3), the International Photography Award (IPA), and National Geographic. Her photographs have appeared in local media and photographic publications, as well as two solo and cooperative exhibits in Malaysia and overseas.
