The convergence of Chinese cultural and artistic elements result in a harmonious dining ambience for this Chinese restaurant

Tracing back to thousands of years, Chinese culture is one of the world’s oldest cultures. Chinese traditional cultural values of benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom, honesty, loyalty, and filial piety are represented by the concept of harmony, the most important Chinese traditional value. In order to maintain this unique ancient Chinese identity, the designers have retained the unique artistic value of Chinese culture in the Ben Ran Chinese restaurant.

Every guest can indulge in the atmosphere of real Chinese traditional artistic decoration. Ben Ran has impressed visitors with wooden corridors and the traditional design of the main entrance. Lotus lanterns have enriched the main brown colour of the space with their warm yellow light. The Chinese style’s signboard has the engraved wording of Ben Ran.

The walls of the general dining area are decorated with artistic Chinese calligraphy. The originality and uniqueness of Chinese words result in a rich Chinese cultural ambience. The lanterns at the celling convey the overall concept of the sacredness, nobility, and purity of Chinese Culture. Wooden furniture is always the first choice in Chinese society.

In this restaurant, there are five VIP rooms that are designed for private family dining. There are three linked VIP rooms and two individual separate VIP rooms on the left and right sides of the restaurant respectively. The three linked VIP rooms can become a private function room when the screen door is opened and the rooms are connected. At least 40 people can fit into this private space.

The five VIP rooms are named with five important plants from ancient Chinese culture, which are Pine（松）, Plum（梅）, Orchid（兰）, Bamboo（竹）, and Chrysanthemum（菊）. The reason the names of these plants were selected is because of the concept of four gentlemen that represent elegance, favour, and traditional Chinese cultural personality. Pine （松）is one of the uniquely selected plants that has another meaning. It remains green all year round, even in winter. Therefore, pine has the meaning of longevity, perseverance, and unyielding.

The restaurant’s interior design elements include ancient Chinese doors with wooden fencing, old-type artistic vase, and traditional decorative items, which illustrates a Chinese restaurant with the true identity of Chinese taste, culture, and soul. The wall decorations in the VIP rooms are not general paintings; they are specially customised wall clothes that enhance the detailed and aesthetic value of Chinese culture.

Besides, the toilet will be also a point of surprise to input the Chinese cultural design with the modern facilities. The partition in the toilet never to be casual and the visitors could also feel the same traditional and aesthetic appearance from the environment. We believe that the design of Chinese ancient never being outdated and still remains its longevity in art and culture with its unique and personality. By using the ancient Chinese concept also synchronic with the restaurant’s name, Ben Ran （本然）, which means original and nature.
