SAUVEREIGN And Studio Putman Unveils Dualités: Mosaic of Details Exhibition At Elements Hong Kong

SAUVEREIGN and Studio Putman present their latest collaboration, Dualités: Mosaic of Details. This exhibition showcases a stunning collection of avant-garde, sculptural furniture and wearable ornaments that represent a mix of art, luxury, and interior design. As the first-ever collaboration between the French studio and a Hong Kong-born art and luxury house, the exhibition showcases a remarkable retrospective collection of iconic designs by Andrée Putman and Olivia Putman, as well as a collection of new creations conceived in collaboration with SAUVEREIGN founder Bertrand Mak. Running now until 16th June, the event is held in the Metal zone of ELEMENTS, presented in association with L’Officiel, as part of the 30^th edition of the French May Arts Festival.

An exquisite showcase of both retrospective and newly created works, the exhibition exemplifies the evolution of Studio Putman through three curated sections. The first, titled Le Salon by Studio Putman, commemorates the 10^th anniversary of Andrée’s passing and celebrates the life and legacy of the legendary designer. Within the salon, an original selection of furniture and objects by Studio Putman is displayed alongside photographs and personal artefacts of the late designer. The scenography is designed by her daughter Olivia and highlights the icon’s masterful use of black and white checkers as a recurring motif in her practice. A recognisable marker of the studio to this day, the checkerboard pattern is a legacy and signature perpetuated over two generations of Putman designers.

Throughout the reign of Andrée to Olivia, Studio Putman has been renowned for its exceptional design work for a multitude of internationally distinguished brands such as Christofle, Lalique, Charles Jourdan, Louis Vuitton and Nina Ricci. In the exhibition’s second area, titled ‘Studio Putman in Collaboration with…’, a diverse collection of singular objects is on display, each one born out of the studio’s numerous collaborations over the years. Ranging from ceramics to textiles, home décor and wearable items from 1993 to 2013, the items are showcased in a salon-style. A mosaic of moments from the history of Studio Putman, Studio Putman in Collaborations with… elucidates fragments of insights into the creative journey of the evolving studio.

The exhibition reaches its peak in the third and final section, aptly titled SAUVEREIGN BY STUDIO PUTMAN. This gallery houses an amazing collection of wearable art and home goods, crafted through the partnership between the two esteemed houses. After a year of thoughtful deliberation and development, the SAUVEREIGN BY STUDIO PUTMAN collection has come to fruition. Marking the studio’s first collaboration with a designer from Asia, the newly revealed items encapsulate a fusion of refined Western sophistication and subtle Eastern intricacy.

The collection, crafted by the talented minds of Olivia Putman and Bertrand Mak, features a fresh line of SAUVEREIGN’s renowned Gem adornments which are expertly sculpted to evoke the timeless Putman mosaic. Simultaneously launched is a wall mirror and a compact mirror that integrates gold elements, coalescing the expertise of the two houses. Transforming their canvases from large to small and vice versa, their resultant creations are an interesting microcosm and magnification of the designers’ respective practices.
